Snow Time

Living in New England has its ups and downs. The fall and spring seasons are great. The summers are hot and humid, but there are lots of beaches to cool off in. The winters, though, I could live without. I do not like the snow. Every year I think it will be different. I see the first snow fall and think it is a great, pretty wonder. Then I have to get in my car. I really do not like cleaning off my car. Not only does it take forever but it is also cold and gets everywhere. By the time I am finished I have to go inside and change my clothes. Depending on how heavy it is snowing, I have to go back out to my car and clear it again before I can go anywhere. I live in New England and snow wont keep me off the road, though.

 

I was very surprised the other day when my husband told me that he saw on the news that it snowed in Las Vegas, in the desert! I thought the desert never got snow. I was in Las Vegas in June 2008. It was 104 degrees and very nice. I cannot imagine it snowing there!

When I was younger, and didn’t have to shovel because my mom always did it while I played in it, I really liked the snow. We lived in a house that was on a corner so when the snowplow came through, we got all the snow from the road pushed up onto our lawn. There was so much snow one year, that it almost covered a really tall stop sign on the lawn. My sister and I made an igloo in it. When I was not playing in it, I was in my room thinking about it. I even wrote poems and short stories about it. I can’t remember any of them now, unfortunately. I have moved so many times since then that there is no way I still have them, either.

 

Snow can be fun. I had a really great time watching my puppy play in the snow. She is my first dog ever and is my favorite thing in the whole world! It is so fun to watch her run through the snow and try to eat it like a shovel. I cannot stop taking pictures and videos of her. I don’t know what I did before they invented cell phones that can take pictures and videos!

 

Snow can be fun even though it is a pain most of the time.What I have learned is that the snow makes me remember when I was a kid, and that makes me happy. It also makes me think more creatively. I am more likely to write a peom or draw when it snows.
